Liverpool’s new head coach Andoni Iraola has shared his vision for bringing the club and its supporters together as he begins a new chapter at Anfield.
Speaking during Liverpool’s preseason tour in Chicago, the 44-year-old discussed his football philosophy, his love for former club Athletic Club, and his plans to rebuild and unite the Reds following a challenging period.
Iraola also reflected on a memorable moment from 2013, when Liverpool attempted to sign him as a player. Although he chose to remain at Athletic Club, where he went on to make more than 500 appearances and captain the side, he reportedly sent Liverpool a heartfelt letter explaining his decision.
When asked about the letter, however, Iraola smiled and politely declined to reveal its contents.
“I’d rather win a few games first,” he said. “It’s a nice story, but I don’t want it to seem like I’m trying to sell myself. Maybe you can ask me again in a few months.”
The response highlighted the humility and professionalism that have already impressed those around the club.
Liverpool’s preseason tour in the United States will give Iraola his first extended opportunity to work closely with his squad. Several senior players, including marquee signings Alexander Isak and Florian Wirtz, are expected to join the team later in the tour as preparations continue for the new season.
