2026 Mid-Year Budget Review: Ato Forson assures parliament of timely GH¢10.8bn DDEP coupon payment
Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson has assured Parliament that the government will honour the GH¢10.8 billion seventh coupon payment under the Domestic Debt Exchange Programme (DDEP) on schedule.
Presenting the 2026 Mid-Year Budget Review in Parliament, Dr. Forson said the payment, which falls due on 18 August 2026, will be made on time and in full, reaffirming the government’s commitment to meeting its debt obligations.
“Let me use this opportunity to assure this House that it will be paid on time and in full,” the Finance Minister stated.
Dr. Forson noted that the government has already demonstrated its commitment to creditors by successfully paying the GH¢10.1 billion sixth DDEP coupon on 17 February 2026 without delay.
He added that since January 2025, Ghana has also paid US$2.1 billion in principal and interest to Eurobond holders without placing undue pressure on the country’s foreign exchange reserves.
According to the Finance Minister, every debt repayment made on schedule is helping to rebuild investor confidence and restore Ghana’s credibility in the international financial markets.
“There was a time when the world doubted us. Today, every payment made on time answers our doubters, assuring bondholders in London, pension funds in New York, and investors at home that our word is our bond. Payment after payment, coupon after coupon, Ghana is proving one thing beyond dispute—we now keep our word,” he said.
Dr. Forson said the government’s consistent debt servicing, coupled with prudent fiscal management, has contributed to lower borrowing costs, improved market confidence and strengthened Ghana’s economic recovery.
