Sammy Adu Boakye laments limited Healthcare options in the Ashanti Region

The Chairman of the HEAL KATH Project, Sammy Adu Boakye, has expressed concern over what he describes as inadequate healthcare infrastructure in the Ashanti Region, citing the heavy dependence on the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) for emergency and specialized medical care.

Speaking on Kessben FM, Mr. Adu Boakye compared healthcare options available in Accra and Kumasi, arguing that residents of the Greater Accra Region have several hospitals to choose from during medical emergencies, while those in Kumasi often have only one major option.

“When someone is seriously ill or injured in Accra, the driver has several hospitals to choose from. In Kumasi, the immediate option is KATH,” he stated.

According to him, the situation highlights the need for greater investment in healthcare infrastructure and the development of additional well-equipped medical facilities across the Ashanti Region.

Mr. Adu Boakye noted that the overreliance on KATH places enormous pressure on the hospital and contributes to congestion at its emergency and specialist units. He called on policymakers and stakeholders to prioritize development projects that would expand healthcare access and improve service delivery in the region.
