Galamsey & quick money syndrome have made Ghanaian Youth very lazy – Hon. Akuoko Frimpong

Hon. Akuoko Frimpong has expressed concern over the growing involvement of Ghanaian youth in illegal mining and the pursuit of instant wealth, warning that the trend is negatively affecting the country’s work ethic and future development.
Speaking on Kessben FM, Hon. Frimpong stated that the rise in galamsey activities and the “quick money syndrome” have made many young people reluctant to pursue education, entrepreneurship, and productive employment opportunities.
According to him, the desire for fast wealth has diverted the attention of many youths from hard work and discipline, which are essential for national growth. He noted that the situation poses a serious threat to Ghana’s economic and social development if urgent measures are not taken.
“Galamsey and the quick money mentality have made many Ghanaian youth very lazy. Everyone wants instant wealth without hard work,” he said during the interview.
Hon. Frimpong further called on government agencies, parents, and community leaders to intensify education and mentorship programs aimed at promoting responsible living, skills development, and lawful means of earning income among the youth.
