Unnecessary expectations in Ghana, like driving big cars & paying huge funeral donations, making many Ghanains travel – Hon Kwadwo Bediako Banahene

Former District Chief Executive (DCE) for Nsuta, Hon. Kwadwo Bediako Banahene, has attributed the increasing migration of Ghanaians to foreign countries to growing social pressure and unrealistic expectations within society.
Speaking on Kessben FM in relation to the evacuation of 300 Ghanaians from South Africa following xenophobic attacks, Hon. Banahene said many young people feel compelled to travel abroad in search of wealth and social status.
According to him, societal expectations such as driving expensive cars, making huge funeral donations, and maintaining lavish lifestyles are placing unnecessary pressure on individuals, especially the youth.
“People are under pressure to show wealth by driving big cars and giving huge funeral donations, and this is pushing many Ghanaians to travel abroad in search of quick money,” he stated.
Hon. Banahene noted that the situation has contributed to risky migration and hardship for many Ghanaians living outside the country. He called for a change in societal attitudes and urged the youth to focus on honest work and sustainable development rather than material display and social competition.
