Xenophobic Attacks: AU summit should punish South Africa for violations – Hon. Akwasi Osei Agyei

Former Ejisu Juaben MP and former Foreign Affairs Minister, Hon. Akwasi Osei Agyei, has urged the African Union (AU) to take firm action against South Africa over recurring xenophobic attacks on foreign nationals.
Speaking on Kessben FM, Hon. Osei Agyei described the attacks as a violation of the principles of African unity, peace, and cooperation championed by the African Union. He argued that the AU summit should consider punitive measures against South Africa to serve as a deterrent and protect the rights of Africans living across the continent.
According to him, repeated attacks on migrants and foreign workers weaken the spirit of Pan-Africanism and undermine efforts to promote integration among African states.
“The African Union must not remain silent while Africans are being attacked in another African country. South Africa must be held accountable for these violations,” he stated.
Hon. Osei Agyei also called on African leaders to intensify diplomatic engagement and strengthen policies aimed at preventing xenophobia and ensuring the safety of all African citizens residing outside their home countries.
