Ashanti Region Set for Massive Road Infrastructure Boost — Dr. Frank Amoakohene
Story: Maurice Otoo

The Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, has reaffirmed government’s commitment to transforming the road sector in the Ashanti Region, describing the area as a critical economic hub that deserves sustained infrastructure investment.
Speaking via Zoom interview on Kessben TV’s Digest show, Dr. Amoakohene revealed that upon assuming office, he did not discover any documented plans for interchanges in the Ashanti Region.
According to him, the Ashanti Region plays a strategic role in Ghana’s economy due to its central location and its importance to both domestic and neighboring countries’ economic activities.
“We need more development in the Ashanti Region because it is almost like the center of the country for both domestic and neighboring countries’ economic activities,” he stated.
Dr. Amoakohene stressed that every government must prioritize roads in the Ashanti Region because of the significant economic benefits such investments bring to the country.
He assured residents that the NDC government is determined to undertake massive road infrastructure development in the region.
Touching on ongoing and stalled projects, the Minister noted that the only interchange completed under the previous NPP administration was the Asafo Interchange, while several others were left abandoned.
He disclosed that when he took office, there was no dedicated funding allocated to the Suame Interchange project.
However, he said the current government has now incorporated the project into the Mahama administration’s “Big Push” agenda and has secured funding for the contractor to continue work.
“We anticipate the completion of the Suame Interchange before October 2028,” he announced.
Dr. Amoakohene further emphasized that government’s strategy is to complete all existing projects before initiating new ones across the region.
He expressed confidence that once these projects are completed, the electorate will appreciate the administration’s efforts and grant it the mandate to continue delivering development.
He also urged political leaders to look beyond partisan considerations in addressing the developmental needs of the Ashanti Region.
“We need to grow development in the region beyond partisan politics,” he said.
On other key infrastructure initiatives, the Minister disclosed that major works have already been undertaken at the Boankra Inland Port, signaling progress in boosting trade and logistics within the region.
