Ashanti Regional Minister Announces Major Boost for Creative Arts Industry

Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, has disclosed significant progress in efforts to strengthen the creative arts industry in the Ashanti Region, revealing that the government has fulfilled key promises made to stakeholders this year.

Speaking on Kessben TV’s Digest show, Dr. Amoakohene stated that two major commitments were made to the creative arts sector in 2026 , the acquisition of land for a theatre complex and the design of the project — both of which have now been achieved.

According to him, through the support and generosity of Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, a vast parcel of land has been secured between Santasi and Bekwai for the development of a modern creative arts facility.

He explained that the land is large enough to accommodate a theatre, conference halls, car parks, and other related infrastructure that will support the growth of the industry.

Dr. Amoakohene emphasized that the regional administration is determined to see the project through to completion, adding that the initiative has, for the first time, been captured in the national budget , a development he described as a major milestone for the sector.

“We are poised to complete the creative arts facility because for the first time it has been captured in the national budget,” he said.

Touching on concerns surrounding the Kumawood movie industry, the Minister acknowledged long-standing challenges and assured stakeholders that steps are being taken to provide effective leadership and structure.

He noted that authorities are working to streamline activities within Kumawood by bringing practitioners under a regulated body to ensure professionalism and accountability.

“We are now giving them leadership to streamline their activities and bring them under a regulated body so no one can do what they please,” he added.

The move is expected to revitalize the creative arts ecosystem in the Ashanti Region and position it as a hub for cultural and entertainment development in Ghana.
