A member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) communications team, Yaw Yeboah, has raised concerns over reports that authorities are considering renting a residential property for the head coach of the Ghana national football team.
Speaking on the issue at Kessben Maakye show, Yeboah argued that it would be more prudent for the state to acquire a permanent residence for the national team coach rather than spending significant sums on rent.
“It will be sensible to acquire a standard property for the national coach to reside in,” he noted, questioning the rationale behind committing large amounts of public funds to rental arrangements.
He further suggested that the same funds earmarked for rent could be redirected into building or purchasing a permanent facility, which would serve long-term national interest.
Yeboah also expressed uncertainty over whether Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) mandates the provision of accommodation for national team coaches, insisting that even if such provisions exist, a permanent solution would be more cost-effective.
“I think we are just wasting money on these residential issues, and that creates suspicion of possible kickbacks somewhere,” he alleged.
Despite his criticism, Yeboah praised the newly appointed coach, describing him as “fantastic,” but cautioned that success would depend heavily on the broader football ecosystem.
“If the ecosystem does not favour his work, he would fail,” he added.
The debate over accommodation for the Black Stars coach comes amid ongoing discussions about resource allocation and management within Ghana’s football administration.
