Gov’t moves to revive stalled ‘Eastern Regional Hospital’ , expand infrastructure across regions – Mahama

The government has announced renewed efforts to revive stalled infrastructure projects and ensure balanced development across the country, with President John Dramani Mahama reaffirming a strong focus on healthcare and education.

Speaking during a courtesy call by the Eastern Regional House of Chiefs at the, President Mahama disclosed that work on the long delayed Eastern Regional Hospital will soon resume after fresh engagement with the contractor.

“The Eastern Regional Hospital stalled a bit, but we have asked the contractor to go back to site, and we will pay him so that we can complete it and have the Eastern Regional Hospital,” he said.

He stressed that the government is committed to ensuring that all regions benefit fairly from infrastructure investments, particularly in critical sectors.

Addressing healthcare expansion, the President revealed that the six newly created regions are set to receive regional hospitals, with construction to be carried out in phases.

“The six new regions are going to receive regional hospitals. We are starting with three of their regional hospitals this year, and next year we will catch up with the remaining three,” he noted.

On education, President Mahama highlighted plans to accelerate the establishment of the University of Engineering, Science and Agriculture at Bonsu, following recent discussions with partners in Korea.

“Recently, I was in Korea and we discussed the issue of the University of Engineering, Science and Agriculture in Bonsu, and I think that that is an institution that we are activating as quickly as possible,” he stated.

He added that the project is expected to expand access to tertiary education and accommodate the increasing number of young people seeking university opportunities.

“It will create more room for our young people who are seeking tertiary educational opportunities,” he said.

President Mahama reaffirmed that government remains focused on fast-tracking infrastructure delivery in both the health and education sectors as part of its broader national development agenda.
