No Ghanaian life has been lost – Ablakwa clears the air on South Africa Xenophobic video

Ghana’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has revealed that the government is in talks with South African officials following a widely circulated video showing a confrontation involving a Ghanaian resident.

He disclosed that he held a phone conversation with South Africa’s Foreign Minister, Ronald Lamola, to address concerns raised by the incident.

In a statement shared online, Ablakwa explained that the discussion focused on the disturbing nature of the video, which many have linked to xenophobic tensions in South Africa.

According to him, Lamola conveyed sympathy for those affected and assured that a full investigation would be conducted into the matter. Ablakwa added that South African authorities are also planning to brief African ambassadors on the situation.

The minister further noted that he has been working closely with Ghana’s High Commission in South Africa to coordinate an appropriate response.

He confirmed that the Ghanaian featured in the viral video has been located and is currently receiving consular support, adding that the individual is in stable condition.

Ablakwa emphasized that no Ghanaian lives have been lost in connection with the incident and called for calm among the public.

Reaffirming the government’s stance, he stressed that Ghana remains committed to safeguarding the welfare of its citizens both at home and abroad. He also urged unity, cautioning against allowing isolated incidents to damage relations among African nations.
