A hopeful for the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) First National Vice Chairman position, Dr. Mustapha Abdul-Hamid, has outlined an ambitious agenda aimed at rebuilding the party, insisting the NPP must reconnect with its grassroots, attract top talent and restore discipline ahead of future elections.
Speaking on his vision for the party, Dr. Hamid said every political party in opposition must assemble its best minds to reposition itself for victory.
“Every party must gather its best talent when in opposition in order to be able to battle the ruling party,” he stressed.
The aspiring national executive disclosed that he has contested for national office within the NPP since 2001 and believes his experience has prepared him to win the First National Vice Chairman position this time around.
Dr. Hamid lamented what he described as the party’s inability to retain intellectuals, claiming many academics have joined the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) because the NPP failed to properly engage and manage them.
He also announced plans to focus on Zongo and settler communities, saying he understands their concerns and intends to develop practical policies that address the needs of settlers in those areas.
According to him, another major challenge facing the party is the loss of young people.
“We have lost the youth because we didn’t have any mentorship programme for them,” he stated, promising to champion initiatives that nurture the next generation of party leaders.
Dr. Hamid further argued that effective leadership must be grounded in principles, warning that leaders who fail to uphold discipline cannot successfully lead followers.
He also accused sections of the party leadership of applying double standards, insisting such conduct has contributed to growing indiscipline within the NPP.
His remarks come as competition intensifies for key national executive positions, with candidates presenting reform agendas aimed at revitalising the party ahead of future political contests.
