Controversy Erupts Over Road Project Design Change and Boankra Inland Port Silence

Concerns are mounting over recent decisions surrounding a major road project, with stakeholders questioning the rationale behind altering the original design and sole sourcing.

 

In a phone interview with Nana Kwame Appau Addo Frimpong, MP, Abuakwa North, argue that the initial plan for Suame interchange was carefully structured to ease traffic flow, and its modification could undermine efficiency and long-term benefits.

 

Additionally he said , the proposed “Accra–Kumasi Expressway,” is describe as a promising initiative but premature under current circumstances.

 

According to the lawmaker, there is limited clarity on the project’s full scope and financial implications, raising doubts about its necessity at this stage.

The situation is further complicated by the nature of the area affected by the roadworks. He described it as densely populated, the project may require the relocation of residents, with compensation expected to be paid to affected individuals. This has sparked calls for transparency and accountability, particularly regarding the total budget and whether the costs could outweigh the intended benefits.

 

He challenged authorities to disclose detailed financial plans and subject the project to thorough scrutiny before proceeding.

 

Meanwhile, questions also linger over the status of the Boankra Inland Port. Although officials have indicated that investigations are ongoing, little information has been made public, fueling public anxiety.

 

In a related development, Hon. Addo Frimpong pointed out that previous promises to revive the country’s railway system have yet to materialize, leaving many skeptical about the government’s broader infrastructure agenda.

Stakeholders are now calling on leadership to exercise caution and adopt a more transparent approach in handling infrastructure projects, especially those with significant public impact.
