CLOGSAG Declares Nationwide Strike Over Delayed Salary Structure Agreement

Maurice Otoo

The Civil and Local Government Staff Association of Ghana (CLOGSAG) has announced a nationwide strike beginning Monday, March 9, 2026, citing government’s failure to implement an agreed salary structure and conditions of service.

Speaking on behalf of the association on Kessben Maakye, the Public Relations Officer,( PRO) Edmund Acquaye, stated that CLOGSAG had earlier reached an agreement with government as far back as 2019 regarding their salary structure and conditions of service.

However, according to him, several attempts by the union to have the agreement implemented have proven unsuccessful.

“We signed an agreement with the government in 2019 about our salary structure and conditions of service, but it has proven futile,” he explained.

He further accused the government of continuously postponing discussions on the proposals submitted by the association, leaving members frustrated.

“We were given assurances by the current government, but one year down the line we have not heard anything concrete,” he said.

Mr. Acquaye added that despite the formal agreement signed between the parties, the employer has refused to commit to implementing the terms.

Meanwhile, the National Labour Commission has reportedly declared the strike action illegal.

However, CLOGSAG insists the matter remains strictly an employer–employee dispute and should not involve external interference.

“We are talking about an employer–employee deal. The National Labour Commission should not come into this,” he noted.

CLOGSAG also accused its employer of acting in bad faith and has therefore called on all its members across the country to embark on the strike until their concerns are addressed.

The industrial action, according to the association, officially began Monday, March 9, 2026.
