Outrage in Parliament: Minority Leader Calls for Probe into Death of Young Engineer Denied Emergency Care

The Minority Leader, Afenyo-Markin, has risen in Parliament to demand accountability and urgent reforms following the tragic death of Charles Amissah, a 29-year-old engineer who was shockingly denied emergency treatment at three major public hospitals in Accra.

Speaking with palpable outrage, Afenyo-Markin condemned the “catastrophic failure of the healthcare system” and described the incident as a “profound national shame”. He called for the matter to be immediately referred to the Committee on Health for a thorough investigation, emphasizing that such incidents are unacceptable in a country that prides itself on valuing human life.

According to reports, Amissah was involved in a hit-and-run accident on February 6, 2026, and was taken to the Police Hospital, Ridge Hospital, and Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, but was refused treatment at all three facilities. The incident has sparked widespread outrage and raised serious questions about the state of Ghana’s healthcare system.

Afenyo-Markin’s impassioned plea in Parliament underscores the gravity of the situation, highlighting the need for immediate action to prevent similar tragedies in the future. The Minority Leader’s call for investigation and accountability is expected to put pressure on the government to take concrete steps to address the systemic issues plugging Ghana’s healthcare sector
