Global Institute of Aviation Empowers Students for Aviation Careers

The Global Institute of Aviation (GIA) in Ghana is making significant strides in equipping young people with the skills needed to excel in the aviation industry. At a recent seminar held at the GNAT Hall in Accra, students and industry professionals gathered to discuss the institute’s impact and future prospects.

Mike Dumenya, a tutor at GIA, highlighted the institute’s focus on professionalism and customer service. “We train students to handle passengers with a professional touch, ensuring they are solution-oriented and customer-focused,” he said. This approach aims to prepare students for the demands of the aviation industry, where customer satisfaction is paramount.

GIA offers a range of courses, including travel, tourism, passenger handling, ground operations, and customer service. With about 70 students currently enrolled, the institute provides hands-on training and internship opportunities. Around 120 students graduate annually, and many secure placements in reputable organizations within the aviation sector.

Victoria Yamoah, a former student now working with Aviance Ghana, praised GIA’s impact. “What is taught in the classroom is no different from what you see in the working space,” she said, encouraging others to join the institute. Her experience is a testament to the institute’s effectiveness in preparing students for real-world challenges.

Dumenya emphasized the importance of integrity and focus for students. “Have integrity in all you do, and you’ll excel everywhere,” he advised. This principle guides GIA’s approach to education, aiming to produce not just skilled professionals but also responsible individuals.

The institute’s efforts are yielding results, with many alumni securing jobs or starting their own ventures. GIA plans to expand its capacity to meet growing demand and welcomes stakeholders and investors to partner in its growth.
