Kobby Mensah accuses Ablekuma West MP, MCE of unlawful demolition and intimidation to collapse business

A leading member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Ablekuma West, Hon. Kobby Mensah, has accused the Member of Parliament (MP) Rev. Kwaku Addo and the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) Hon. George E.kpakpo Allotey of political intimidation and unlawfully demolishing parts of his business properties.

Hon. Mensah, a former parliamentary aspirant for Ablekuma West and a businessman with interests in hospitality, transport, oil and gas, and real estate, claims he is being targeted by individuals within his own party despite supporting its electoral victory.

Speaking in an interview, he expressed shock over what he described as coordinated threats and actions against his businesses.

“I supported the party with my resources vehicles, pickups, vans, T-shirts ,everything possible to ensure victory,” he stated. “Today, some of the same people are threatening to collapse my business.”

Alleged Threats

According to Hon. Mensah, tensions began shortly after the elections when he intervened to prevent alleged looting and destruction of government property by some youth in the constituency.

“I told them we were not yet sworn in and did not have the authority to take over government property,” he explained. “Later that night, around 1 a.m., I was informed that about 20 to 30 motorbikes had gathered in front of my house.”

He alleged that during the confrontation, one individual brandished a firearm and warned him against interfering in their activities.

“One of them pulled a gun and told me that if I spoke out, he would shoot me. I kept quiet because I have a family to protect,” he recounted.

Hon. Mensah said he reported the incident to party leadership at various levels but has yet to receive what he considers a satisfactory response.

Demolition of Property

The businessman further alleged that on a recent Saturday, officials from the Municipal Assembly arrived at his hotel premises and began demolishing parts of the property without prior notice.

“They came in a pickup vehicle and started demolishing sections of my property,” he said. “Later, I was informed that they had orders to remove my signboard and shut down my office.”

Hon. Mensah insists he has fulfilled all his financial obligations to the Municipal Assembly.

“I pay my tax annually for the hotel and annually for my office. I have receipts and proper documentation. I do not understand why my business would be closed when I have complied with the law,” he stated.

He added that prior to the incident, he had written to the Municipal Chief Executive seeking permission to undertake drainage and road works near his property but received no response.

Frustration with Party Leadership

Hon. Mensah expressed disappointment over what he described as the silence of party executives he contacted following the incidents.

“I have called the Regional Minister, the Regional Chairman, and national executives, but I have not received the attention I believe this matter deserves,” he said.

He questioned why, after years of financial and logistical support to the party, his businesses are now allegedly under threat.

“I built my business long before entering politics. I employ over 270 workers across the country. If my own party allows my business to be destroyed, what message are we sending?” he asked.

Call for Action

Hon. Mensah has called on party leadership and government authorities to investigate the matter and address what he describes as intimidation and abuse of power.

“I am asking for fairness. If there is any issue with my property, let it be addressed through proper legal procedures — not intimidation or demolition without notice,” he said.

Efforts to reach the Municipal Chief Executive and other local party officials for comment were unsuccessful at the time of filing this report.
