Being voted out doesn’t silence us about the Galamsey happening under the Mahama Government – Sam Pyne, Former Kumasi Mayor

Former Kumasi Mayor, Samuel Pyne, has stated that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) still has a responsibility to speak out on national issues, despite losing political power.

Speaking on Kessben FM in an interview with Wofa Kofi Appiah, Pyne stressed that electoral defeat does not strip the party of its voice on matters affecting the country.

He pointed specifically to the issue of illegal mining, popularly known as galamsey, which he says continues to occur under the current National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration. According to Pyne, the NPP cannot remain silent simply because Ghanaians voted the party out of office.

Samuel Pyne argued that galamsey is a national crisis that affects water bodies, farmlands, and the future of the country, and therefore demands continuous scrutiny regardless of which party is in power.

He added that constructive criticism is part of democratic governance and should not be interpreted as bitterness or refusal to accept electoral outcomes.
