Acting National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Danquah Smith Buttey has confirmed that discrepancies were identified in the NPP peace pact signed on Thursday,, January 22, 2026.
Speaking on Onua FM, Friday, January 23, Buttey explained that Kennedy Agyapong refused to sign the document due to a typing error.
“The statement in the document was meant to read ‘we won’t accept,’ but it was mistakenly typed as ‘we will accept,’” he said.
The error was later rectified to ensure the document was properly signed, allowing the peace process to move forward.
Meanwhile, Buttey announced that he will not contest the position of National Chairman again. “I want to make room for individuals with fresh ideas to contribute to the growth of the party,” he stated.
He reflected on his tenure, saying, “I accepted the position of National Chairman to help the party increase its seats from 137. Unfortunately, that did not happen, and we suffered significant losses. My strategy failed, so it is only right that I step down.”
The confirmation of the error comes after tensions arose over the peace pact, which was meant to ensure intra-party harmony ahead of the January 31 elections.
