NACOC Busts Major Drug Trafficking Attempt at Accra Airport, Arrests Two British Nationals
The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) in two separate operations has arrested two British nationals at the Kotoka International Airport after intercepting a large consignment of suspected illicit drugs (Cannabis) concealed in their luggage. The suspects arrived in Ghana aboard an Emirates Airlines flight from Thailand when NACOC officers, acting on intelligence, flagged them for inspection.
A thorough search revealed a total of 90 vacuum-sealed slabs in their possession. Sixty of the slabs weighed 32.89 kilograms, while an additional 30 slabs weighed 33.44 kilograms, bringing the total haul to over 66 kilograms. The substances have been secured as evidence and are undergoing further forensic analysis as part of ongoing investigations.
NACOC has described the arrest as a significant breakthrough in Ghana’s fight against international drug trafficking and transnational organized crime. The suspects are currently in custody and are expected to be processed through the full rigours of the law, while authorities intensify efforts to dismantle the wider network behind the attempted smuggling operation.
