Air Transat’s Direct Route from Toronto to Accra Strengthens Canada-Ghana Relations

Air connectivity between Canada and Ghana is opening new pathways for travel, trade and investment that benefit communities in both countries.
Air Transat and the High Commission of Canada in Ghana are pleased to highlight the launch of a new non-stop route between Toronto, Canada, and Accra, Ghana. The seasonal service will offer two weekly flights on Wednesdays and Sundays, from June 17 to October 22, 2026. It will be the first direct air link between Canada and Ghana, bringing our two nations even closer.
This milestone builds on the Air Transport Agreement (ATA) signed between Canada and Ghana in March 2025. The ATA created the framework for direct flights and expanded aviation cooperation, allowing for up to 14 weekly passenger flights and 10 weekly cargo flights by multiple carriers, and supporting growth in trade, tourism and people-to-people ties.
The new direct Air Transat service will make travel easier and more efficient while encouraging tourism, business travel, and educational and cultural exchanges. It also comes at a timely moment as communities and fans in both countries look ahead to the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which Canada is co-hosting with the United States and Mexico.
Ghanaian and Canadian communities are encouraged to take full advantage of this new route, which offers more than simple travel convenience. It supports trade expansion, investment and tourism, and further consolidates Canada’s strategic relationship with Ghana, a key partner in West Africa.

“This announcement marks a historic milestone in Canada-Ghana relations. The new route, made possible by our recent Air Transport Agreement (ATA), opens a new chapter in our partnership-one that will deepen cooperation, expand opportunities for business and cultural exchanges, and strengthen the people-to-people connections that anchor our shared future.”

“We are honoured to be the first and only airline to offer a direct connection between Canada and Ghana. This non-stop service between Toronto and Accra aligns with our growth strategy on the African continent and directly responds to the needs of the Ghanaian diaspora in Ontario as well as the increasing interest in travelling to Ghana. It will also provide travellers with an entirely new, simplified connectivity option, eliminating the long European layovers that were previously required.”
