Ghana Gold Board CEO Highlights Importance of Responsible Sourcing at Dubai Precious Metals Conference

The Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board, Sammy Gyamfi Esq., has emphasized the need for responsible sourcing in the artisanal and small-scale gold mining (ASM) sector at the 2025 Dubai Precious Metals Conference.
Speaking at the conference, Gyamfi highlighted Ghana’s efforts to formalize the ASM sector, ensuring that gold mining benefits the country and its people, while minimizing environmental impact.
Ghana’s ASM sector has contributed significantly to the country’s economic recovery, generating over $9 billion in foreign exchange earnings and creating over 1 million direct and indirect jobs.
Gyamfi emphasized the importance of curbing gold smuggling and illegal sourcing, calling for a multilateral certification scheme for gold imports and exports to prevent smuggled gold from entering the global supply chain.
The Ghana Gold Board has implemented measures to promote responsible sourcing, including a track-and-trace system and anti-money laundering checks.
Gyamfi urged international stakeholders to support developing countries like Ghana in transforming their ASM sectors, promoting sustainable livelihoods and environmental stewardship.
The conference provided a platform for Ghana to showcase its efforts in promoting responsible gold mining practices and attracting investment in the sector.
