Empowering Women in Agribusiness: WIPO Launches Training Programme for Ghanaian Women Entrepreneurs

The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) has called on the Minister for Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, Hon. Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, to discuss partnership and collaboration aimed at promoting intellectual property (IP) development in Ghana.
The delegation, led by WIPO Director General Mr. Daren Tang, congratulated the Minister on her assumption of office and announced a six-month training programme for women in agribusiness and SMEs in Ghana. He emphasized WIPO’s commitment to supporting Ghana’s economic transformation agenda, noting that the intensive mentorship and training initiative would deliver meaningful results for entrepreneurs.
“We want to move intellectual property from the global north to the global south to our brothers and sisters in Africa and we are here to walk with you throughout the training process,” he stated.
Receiving the delegation, Hon. Ofosu-Adjare welcomed WIPO’s renewed focus on the SME sector, saying that training programmes for women in agribusiness were “the way to go.” She also commended WIPO’s effort to train beneficiaries in product packaging, adding that such interventions are essential.
“Anything that will help promote proper packaging is always welcome,” she noted.
The Minister further urged WIPO to expedite the implementation process to ensure the initiative becomes a reality and positively impacts the lives of many Ghanaians, especially women.
