Gov’t Reduces Passport Application Fees by 30% – Foreign Minister

The Ghanaian government has announced a 30% reduction in passport application fees, effective November 13, 2025. The new fee will be 350 Ghana Cedis, down from 500 Ghana Cedis.
Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, the Minister responsible, stated that the reduction is part of the government’s commitment to making public services more affordable and accessible to citizens. The reduction aims to increase patronage of Ghanaian passports, which had declined significantly following a 400% increase in fees in the past.
The quality of the passports and the delivery process will remain unchanged. The government will continue to deliver passports to applicants free of charge, using courier services. The new passports will retain the same biometric features and security measures as before.
This move is seen as a relief to many Ghanaians who had been calling for a reduction in the fees. The government hopes that this reduction will encourage more citizens to apply for passports, promoting travel and economic opportunities.
The reduction in fees is expected to benefit many Ghanaians, especially those who could not afford the previous fees.
