Books and theories are different from running a country – Kwasi Kwarteng questions Dr. Bawumia’s “Rich Ideas”

Kwasi Kwarteng, spokesperson for Hon. Kennedy Agyapong, has questioned what he describes as a double standard in how Ghanaians assess presidential aspirants, particularly between Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and Kennedy Agyapong.
Speaking in an interview with Akua-Piesie Asare Bediako, Mr. Kwarteng said while some critics dismiss Kennedy Agyapong’s experience in business as unrelated to governance, they readily accept Dr. Bawumia’s economic ideas without subjecting them to the same scrutiny.
Mr. Kwarteng has questioned “ why critics downplay Kennedy Agyapong’s entrepreneurial achievements, asking why the Kennedy Agyapong claim of creating businesses and jobs is often met with the argument that “running government is different from running a private business.”
Kwasi Kwarteng has taken a swipe at Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, arguing that “while the former Vice President touts his “rich ideas,” he has yet to prove that academic theories can translate into the practical demands of governance.
Mr. Kwarteng emphasized that all presidential aspirants should be judged based on their track records and what they have achieved in their respective fields.
Kwasi Kwarteng says ” presidential hopefuls should be judged by their past performance, not limited in what they promise, as voters rely on track records to gauge credibility.”
He stressed that Hon. Kennedy Agyapong’s background as a job creator is evidence of his practical approach to solving Ghana’s unemployment challenges.
“Kennedy Agyapong has a track record of creating jobs. That’s what he believes in, and that’s the vision he’s coming to propagate — his vision is about job creation,” Mr. Kwarteng stated.
He further argued that practical experience in building and sustaining businesses is equally important as theoretical knowledge in economics when it comes to leadership.
“Why is it that someone can call himself an economist, yet no one questions his profession—or his presidential ambitions?” asked Akwasi Kwarteng, sparking debate over the credentials and political ambitions of Dr. Bawumia.
Mr. Kwarteng concluded that Kennedy Agyapong’s message to Ghanaians is simple — to focus on tangible results and leadership grounded in real experience rather than untested theories.
