German President Steinmeier Arrives in Ghana for Historic Three-Day State Visit

The President of the Federal Republic of Germany, Frank-Walter Steinmeier, has arrived in Ghana’s capital, Accra, for a three-day state visit aimed at strengthening diplomatic and economic ties between the two countries.

President Steinmeier touched down at Kotoka International Airport (KIA) on Sunday evening and was received by Ghana’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, alongside the German Ambassador to Ghana, Frederik Landshöft. The brief but colorful airport ceremony reflected the warm relations between the two nations.

High-Level Talks at the Jubilee House

On Monday, November 3, 2025, President Steinmeier is expected to meet with Ghana’s President, John Dramani Mahama, at the Jubilee House in Accra.

The day’s events will begin with an official inspection of a Guard of Honour at the Forecourt of the Presidency, followed by a closed-door meeting between the two leaders. Both delegations will then hold bilateral discussions in the Credentials Room, focusing on key areas of cooperation.

Strengthening Strategic Partnerships

According to diplomatic sources, talks will focus on expanding cooperation in several priority areas, including:

Trade and investment opportunities

Technology transfer and digital innovation

Development cooperation

Regional peace and security

The engagements will culminate in a State Luncheon hosted in honour of President Steinmeier and his delegation at the Presidential Banquet Hall on Monday afternoon.

Cultural Diplomacy in Kumasi

As part of his visit, the German President will travel to Kumasi on Tuesday for a historic courtesy call on the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, at the Manhyia Palace. The meeting is expected to highlight cultural diplomacy and strengthen people-to-people ties between Germany and Ghana.

President Steinmeier will later participate in additional engagements in the Ashanti Regional capital before departing the country on Tuesday evening.

Deepening Ghana-Germany Relations

Germany remains one of Ghana’s most important development partners, supporting initiatives in renewable energy, vocational training, and private sector development.

This visit underscores Germany’s renewed focus on Africa, as Berlin continues to deepen partnerships that promote sustainable development and regional stability across the continent.
