Ghana Government Reiterates Commitment to Social Protection
The Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection has reaffirmed its commitment to reducing vulnerability in society through the Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP) Programme. The Minister, Dr. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, emphasized that the programme is a cornerstone of Ghana’s social protection system, aimed at empowering the most vulnerable households.

98th Cycle of LEAP Payments

The 98th cycle of LEAP cash grant payments commenced on October 8, 2025, benefiting 350,580 households with cash grants ranging from GH₵320 to GHₔ530, depending on the number of eligible members in each household. The total number of individuals benefiting from this cycle is over 1.5 million.

Emphasis on Human Capital Development

The Minister highlighted the Ministry’s focus on human capital development and productive inclusion for LEAP beneficiaries. The programme aims to equip households with the tools and opportunities to engage in sustainable productive activities and self-employment, enabling them to maximize the use of LEAP grants and move towards long-term resilience and well-being.

Indexation of Cash Grants
The Ministry has also introduced a benchmark for indexing the cash grants against inflation, starting from the 96th cycle of payments. This move aims to reduce the erosion of the value of the LEAP cash grant due to inflation.

Re-Assessment and Expansion
The Minister announced plans to re-assess the LEAP Programme, which will lead to an increase in coverage from 350,580 households to 400,000 households before the end of 2025. This move aligns with the President’s vision to expand social protection to more deserving households.

Call to Action

The Minister urged beneficiaries to actively participate in the ongoing LEAP reassessment data collection and upcoming household data verification exercise. She also called on citizens and stakeholders to report any malpractice or misconduct, emphasizing the importance of integrity in managing the LEAP Programme.
