Ghana does not care about farmers, Elsewhere in Europe & America, farmers do not have to worry about marketing their produce – Wofa Kofi Appiah

Veteran broadcaster Wofa Kofi Appiah has expressed deep frustration over what he describes as Ghana’s continued neglect of its farmers.
Speaking passionately on Kessben FM, the seasoned broadcaster compared the struggles of Ghanaian farmers to the relative ease enjoyed by their counterparts in Europe and America, stating bluntly that “Ghana does not care about farmers.”
“Elsewhere in Europe and America, farmers do not have to worry about how to market their produce. The system works for them. But here in Ghana, our farmers are left to their fate,” Wofa Kofi Appiah lamented.
According to the presenter, Ghana’s agricultural backbone is being weakened by poor planning, lack of government support, and an underdeveloped value chain that places the entire burden of production, distribution, and marketing squarely on the shoulders of the farmer.
Wofa Kofi Appiah highlighted marketing as one of the most pressing challenges facing local farmers. Despite producing tons of food, many Ghanaian farmers often watch their produce rot due to lack of access to structured markets or proper storage facilities. Prices fluctuate wildly, and middlemen, often the only viable option, dictate exploitative prices that rob farmers of their deserved earnings.
Wofa Kofi Appiah criticized successive governments for what he described as “lip service to agriculture.” While political manifestos and speeches often glorify the importance of farming, little tangible support reaches the grassroots.
