NPP New York Chapter marks 33rd Anniversary with gala, fundraiser, and BBQ in New Rochelle

The New York Chapter of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has marked its 33rd anniversary with a weekend of activities that brought together leading figures of the party, dignitaries and supporters from USA, Canada, UK and Ghana.
The two-day event, held from Saturday, August 23 to Sunday, August 24, 2025, featured a glamorous dinner and fundraiser at the plush Hotel NoMa in New Rochelle, followed by a summer barbecue and cookout at the Glen Island, Picnic Area 7. The celebrations drew an overwhelming crowd, with organizers confirming that the dinner venue exceeded capacity, forcing about 100 guests to be relocated.
Among the high-profile attendees were former Vice President and NPP Presidential Candidate Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Former Minister of Education Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, NPP National First Vice Chairman Smith Buttey Danquah, the NPP-USA Branch Chairlady Obaa Yaa Frimpong, NPP Canada Branch Chairlady Mrs Victoria Owusu Ansah, Former NY Chapter Chairman Prof. Akwasi Achampong, Former Branch Chairman Nana Agyei Yeboah, and members of the NPP Minority Caucus in Parliament. A number of Ghanaian celebrities also graced the occasion, lending glamour and cultural flair to the milestone.
With the theme “33 Years of Devoted Service, Patriotism, and Commitment: Reigniting the Base, Rebuilding With Our Core Values in Unity,” the anniversary highlighted the chapter’s contribution to the growth of the NPP since its formation. Party leaders paid tribute to the pioneers who, during the challenging period of military rule in Ghana, laid the foundation for the chapter in New York, nurturing it from silence into the vibrant force it is today.
Speaking under the theme “Honoring Our Heroes – Reigniting Our Base,” NPP New York Chapter Chairman, Frank Antwi, described the milestone as a moment to reflect on the party’s roots and reignite its values for the future.
“In the early beginnings (Pre-80s), when it all began, through the past 33 years, it was obvious that posterity would at a moment like this acknowledge its icons,” Mr. Antwi noted. “On this occasion, we honor the efforts and abilities of our predecessors who courageously assembled heroes and conquerors during a period of military dictatorship, tyranny and oppression to build the foundational springboard that has sprung a group of like-minded Ghanaians in the New York Area from silence to the vibrant chapter we’ve become.”
The chapter’s leadership urged members to remain steadfast in unity, stressing that internal strife posed greater dangers than external opposition. “This stage in our political journey as NPP, where unity and purpose have gone separate ways, what is even more dangerous is not the things we say, but what we lack the bravery to say,” the statement emphasized. “In view of the current temperature in-house, time is ripe to eschew negativity, injustice, internal bickering, and slandering. Let’s head back to our roots and return well renewed in commitment and devotion with aligned energies to prosecute a shared purpose in unity and strength against our enemies.”
Mr. Antwi also reminded members of the inevitabilities of political life, stressing that victory and defeat are both part of the struggle. “We have won and lost, that is politics; right and erred, such is human!” he reflected.
The anniversary was also observed as a memorial to honor the sacrifices of fallen patriots of the NPP. “May this anniversary serve as a memorial of all fallen patriots, and the memories of the moment live on to forever inspire courage, selflessness, stewardship, and patriotism to be more impactful in the years ahead,” the Chairman declared.
A key highlight of the celebrations was the announcement of a major fundraising drive to support the activities of the chapter’s adopted constituency in Ghana ahead of the 2028 general elections. Members and sympathizers were encouraged to contribute through a QR code donation platform launched at the event.
“At 33, NPP New York Chapter exclusively announces a fundraiser to fund the activities of her adopted constituency ahead of 2028 and request the support of all and sundry. Kindly scan the QR code and donate now! Your attention and generosity are immensely appreciated,” Mr. Antwi appealed.
He called for unity within the party and prayers for the strength to live up to the values of patriotism and service that the chapter has upheld over the past three decades.
“Long Live NPP NY Chapter! Long Live NPP-USA! Long Live NPP GH! Long Live Our Motherland!” he added.
