Ex-President Akufo-Addo was the most insulted, but his government did not go after media men, arresting them, The hypocrisy in the NDC Gov’t is too much – Hon. Andrew Bediako

Former Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Jaman South, Hon. Andrew Bediako, has taken a strong swipe at the current NDC administration, accusing it of hypocrisy and intolerance towards media freedom.

Speaking on Adwenkyere on Kessben TV, Bediako contrasted the current government’s posture with that of the previous New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration under President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

According to the former MCE, President Akufo-Addo was one of the most insulted leaders in Ghana’s history, often enduring relentless criticism from sections of the media and the general public. However, Bediako stressed that the Akufo-Addo administration refrained from arresting or persecuting journalists, no matter how severe the attacks were.

“President Akufo-Addo was insulted day and night, yet not once did he order the arrest of a journalist or media house. The NPP believes in free speech and democracy,” Bediako declared.

Hon Bediako criticized the current NDC government, accusing it of being quick to clamp down on dissenting media voices. He pointed to recent events where journalists and media personnel were reportedly harassed, summoned, or detained under questionable circumstances.

“The hypocrisy in the NDC government is too much. The same people who claimed to be champions of press freedom are now going after media men because they can’t stand criticism,” he added.
