Galamseyers are encroaching close to the national gas pipeline – CEO of Ghana, Judith Adjobah Blay

Judith Adjobah Blay, the CEO of the Ghana National Gas Company, has expressed grave worries over the increase in illicit mining operations in the Nzema East Municipality of the Western Region, close to Akango.
The vital national gas pipeline, which carries lean gas for power generation, is in danger due to the incursion, she explained.
A vital conduit for the provision of energy, the pipeline connects the Atuabo Gas Processing Plant to Kumasi via Esiama and Prestea. Built in 2012, the infrastructure is essential to the nation’s ability to generate electricity.
Madam Blay warned during a visit to the impacted area on Saturday, August 2, that any harm to the highly flammable pipeline might have disastrous effects on the safety of nearby people as well as the nation’s energy security.
She disclosed that Ghana Gas has already taken immediate action to protect the region and prevent further illegal miners from entering.
Madam Blay asked locals to actively support the company’s attempts to protect the gas infrastructure from further deterioration, even as she denounced the damaging actions of illegal miners.
She emphasized that in order to safeguard the country’s vital energy resources, the ongoing threat presented by galamsey operations needs to be handled forcefully.
