AG Dropping Kwabena Duffour’s Case: ‘After all, he was not charged with stealing, NPP should relax – Frank Otuo Acheampong

In the wake of the Attorney General’s decision to discontinue the case involving Dr. Kwabena Duffour and others, a member of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) communication team, Frank Otuo Acheampong, has called on the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to “relax” and stop politicizing the development.

Speaking on Kessben FM, Mr. Acheampong said the decision by the Attorney General to file a nolle prosequi in the case should be respected, especially since Dr. Duffour was never charged with stealing or embezzlement.

“After all, Kwabena Duffour was not charged with stealing. This was more of a corporate governance issue, not criminal theft. So why is the NPP making noise? They should relax,” Acheampong stated.

Dr. Kwabena Duffour, a former Finance Minister, was among individuals cited for various infractions leading to the collapse of uniBank. However, after years of legal proceedings, the Attorney General’s office recently decided to discontinue the case, citing lack of evidence to sustain a successful prosecution.

Acheampong argued that the AG’s action vindicates Dr. Duffour, who has long maintained his innocence. He also accused the opposition NPP of trying to score cheap political points from a matter that has now been legally closed.

The decision to drop the charges has sparked intense political debate, with NPP communicators expressing concerns over transparency and potential favoritism under the NDC administration. However, Acheampong insists that the judicial process was followed and that the AG’s discretion must be respected as part of Ghana’s legal framework.
