GBC Boss and Kpando MCE Throw Full Support Behind Gbese Mantse Peace Cup: “We Are Fully On Board

Momentum is building ahead of the 2025 Gbese Mantse Homowo Peace Charity Cup, with key figures in the Volta Region pledging their full support for the event.
Among them are the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Kpando, Mr. Killian Donkor, and the Regional Director of GBC’s Volta Star Radio, Mr. Franklin Agbenyo, both of whom share a deep love for football and a strong belief in the power of unity.
The match, set for Sunday, August 17, 2025, will see Ghana Premier League heavyweights Accra Hearts of Oak lock horns with Kpando Heart of Lions in a game that goes beyond bragging rights; it’s a celebration of peace, tradition, and community.
During a visit by lead organiser Samuel Anim Addo, MCE Killian Donkor did not hesitate to express his excitement and commitment.
A former stadium manager at the Kpando Sports Stadium and a football enthusiast who witnessed the magic of the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa, Donkor said football is close to his heart.
“This isn’t just another match for us in Kpando,” he said. “It’s a call to rally behind our own. I will give Lions every ounce of support they need. We are mobilizing our people, in their numbers, to storm the stadium and back our team.”
He also revealed his plans to join the organisers in presenting the trophy to the Paramount Chief of Kpando, Togbe Dagadu IX, as part of the build-up to the big day.
The visit will serve both as a mark of respect and a spiritual blessing, as they seek the chief’s endorsement and deliver warm greetings from the Gbese Mantse.
Meanwhile, Franklin Agbenyo, the Volta Regional Director of GBC’s Volta Star Radio, also declared his unflinching support.
A self-proclaimed football lover, Agbenyo vowed to use the full strength of GBC’s platform to push the message of the Homowo Peace Charity Cup far and wide.
“We at Volta Star Radio are fully on board. This match stands for something bigger than football, it’s about promoting peace, especially during the Homowo festival, and that’s something we can all get behind,” he said.
“We will give the event all the publicity it deserves, and I will be at the stadium myself to watch Lions make us proud.”
Agbenyo ended with a rallying cry to the players and fans: “Don’t let this Cup stay in Accra. Bring it back home, we’re all counting on you!”
With such passionate backing from both local leadership and media, the 2025 Gbese Mantse Homowo Peace Charity Cup promises to be more than just a football match, it’s shaping up to be a historic celebration of togetherness, cultural pride, and sporting spirit.
