“Let’s Give Peace a Chance”: President Mahama Urges Conflict Resolution in Nkwanta

President of Ghana H.E John Dramani Mahama in a passionate plea for peace, has addressed the ongoing conflict at Nkwanta in the Oti region, delivering a powerful message of unity and reconciliation during his “ Thank you Tour “ on Friday, 25th July, 2025 in Dambai.
“Our common enemy is poverty, not ourselves,” President Mahama emphasized, challenging the community to shift from conflict to collaborative progress.
He directly confronted the destructive nature of ongoing tensions, stating, “Every once a while, in security reports, I read very disturbing news about people who have died, including students. It’s completely unacceptable.”
President Mahama criticized the militaristic approach to resolving conflicts, questioning the proposed military barrack: “Why should we want a military barrack? We should be asking for hospitals and schools and jobs, not military camps.”
He called for a return to traditional conflict resolution methods, urging, “Let’s dialog. Let’s use our traditional mechanisms to establish peace, because we have to live together. We’re one and the same people.”
The President address highlighted a broader vision of development predicated on peaceful coexistence.
“We should be fighting poverty, not fighting each other,” he declared, outlining government initiatives designed to create opportunities for all citizens.
With a message of hope, President Mahama assured the region of government support.
“The Oti region has always stood on the right side of history, and I assure you this government will stand firmly with you every step of the way.” President Mahama assured.
The President address serves as a powerful reminder that true development can only occur in an environment of peace and mutual understanding.
