Terminations by President Mahama are necessary to avoid waste in the system – Hon. Akuoko Frimpong

Former District Chief Executive (DCE) for Sekyere Central, Hon. Akuoko Frimpong, has stepped forward to defend President John Dramani Mahama’s recent termination of certain public sector appointments.
Speaking on Kessben FM’s morning political talk show, Frimpong justified the President’s actions, stating they are part of a broader strategy to sanitize the system and avoid wasteful expenditure.
In the wake of growing criticism from opposition voices, including political commentator Jimmy Boakye Ansah, who accused Mahama of going back on his promise to create jobs, Akuoko Frimpong offered a contrasting perspective. He argued that some terminations are necessary to ensure that the public sector is efficient, lean, and productive.
Akuoko Frimpong said. “President Mahama is not just terminating contracts for the sake of it. He is reviewing and correcting imbalances to avoid duplication, inefficiency, and financial waste”
Frimpong emphasized that cleaning up the system is a prerequisite for sustainable job creation. According to him, removing ghost names, redundant roles, and non-performing personnel is part of the painful but necessary steps required to pave the way for real opportunities.
“You can’t build new opportunities on a weak foundation. If the system is clogged with inefficiency and unnecessary spending, how do you fund new projects, new businesses, or employ the youth?” he asked.
The former DCE also responded to concerns that qualified individuals were being removed purely on political grounds. “This is not about victimization. It is about accountability. Every government has a responsibility to ensure that taxpayer money is used wisely,” he noted.
While some Ghanaians share his sentiments, the terminations have sparked unease in certain quarters, especially among affected workers and their families. Critics argue that these actions contradict Mahama’s 2024 campaign message, which focused heavily on job creation, youth empowerment, and building inclusive economic opportunities..
