UBA Celebrates Africa Day: Empowering the Continent through Financial Inclusion

As part of its ongoing efforts to promote African development, United Bank for Africa (UBA) recently celebrated Africa Day, marking the continent’s unity and progress. Africa Union Day, observed on May 25th each year, was commemorated by the bank last Friday with a renewed commitment to empowering Africa.
According to Henry Nii Dottey, Regional Head for Marketing and Corporate Communications, UBA West Africa, the bank believes passionately in Africa and is dedicated to developing the continent by leveraging African resources.
Africa Capitalism: A Concept for Development
UBA’s Group Chairman, Tony Elumelu, has long championed the concept of “Africa capitalism,” which emphasizes the importance of using African resources to drive development. This philosophy underpins UBA’s approach to Africa Day, highlighting the need for collective action to build the Africa that Africans want.
Innovative Solutions for Africa
To support this vision, UBA has introduced several innovative solutions aimed at promoting financial inclusion and economic development across the continent. One such initiative is UBA Connect, which enables seamless transactions across 20 countries where the bank operates. With UBA Connect, customers can send money from one location to another without needing an account, using just their national ID card.
The bank’s “One Account, 20 Countries” concept allows customers to access their accounts seamlessly across different countries, facilitating easy transactions and financial operations. This initiative is part of UBA’s broader effort to connect Africa and promote economic development through financial intermediation.
Celebrating African Culture and Expertise
To further promote African development, UBA is hosting “Up Africa Conversations,” a series of discussions featuring experts from across the continent. This year’s conversation featured a renowned economist who shared insights on how to develop Africa and build the continent that Africans want.
Supporting Entrepreneurs and SMEs
UBA is also committed to supporting entrepreneurs and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) through its Africa Continental Free Trade and Loan Facility. This initiative provides access to funding and resources for SMEs, enabling them to tap into their potential and contribute to Africa’s development.
As UBA celebrates Africa Day, the bank reaffirms its commitment to empowering the continent and promoting economic growth through financial inclusion and innovation. By leveraging African resources and expertise, UBA aims to build a brighter future for Africa and its people.
