Digitization and others: The NDC is now leveraging on what they demonized when they were in opposition – NPP communicator, Senior Martin Ameyaw

Senior Martin Ameyaw, a prominent communicator for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has expressed concern over the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government’s adoption of policies they previously criticised while in opposition.

Speaking on Kessben FM, Ameyaw highlighted the NDC’s recent embrace of digitisation initiatives, particularly those championed by Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia during the NPP’s tenure.

Ameyaw pointed to the NDC’s earlier scepticism towards the NPP’s digitisation agenda, which included the implementation of mobile money interoperability, the national identification system (Ghana Card), and the digitisation of government services. He noted that these initiatives were initially met with criticism and doubt from the NDC. However, he observed that the current NDC administration is now leveraging these very tools to enhance governance and service delivery.

“It’s quite understandable that the NDC is now leveraging on what they demonized when they were in opposition,” Ameyaw remarked. He emphasised that the NPP’s foresight in implementing these digital solutions has paved the way for improved efficiency in public services.

As Ghana continues to navigate the complexities of governance and development, the interplay between political ideologies and policy implementation remains a critical area of discussion. The NDC’s current engagement with digitisation underscores the importance of pragmatic approaches to governance, irrespective of previous political affiliations.

The NDC’s current utilisation of digitisation tools, once criticised, now serves as a testament to the transformative power of technology in enhancing public sector performance.
