Vice President homecoming: Mahama raises the issue of improving healthcare in Ghana to better handle emergencies

The President of the Republic of Ghana H.E John Dramani Mahama has come up with the issue of improving healthcare in Ghana to better handle emergencies, mentioning the quintinial hospital (UGMC), as a step in the right direction.

Welcoming the Vice President Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang at the Kotoka International Airport this afternoon, returned home from London for medical treatment, President Mahama said, improving our healthcare can help to handle emergencies in the country, other than travelling abroad to seek for medical care.

“ But I think in all this, it raises the issues of us improving our health care so that we can handle emergencies like this, we built a quintinial hospital, which is the University of Ghana Medical Centre ( UGMC) , but it’s still not at the stage where it can handle some of these cases.. And so it’s a call to duty that we should implement it the way late President, Prof. Mills had intended it to be so that in future, emergencies like this can be handled, without us having to fly out.” President Mahama.

President Mahama expresses warm welcome to the vice president, highlighting the emotional and prayerful support during his absence, describing her as looking younger and cheerful upon her return, which is met with gratitude and relief.

“And so today is a special day that you have stepped back in the country, on the land of Ghana, hail and hearty, looking younger, looking cheerful, and we thank God for His mercies.” He added.

President Mahama mentioned the 120-day social contract program and the progress made in fulfilling promises, despite the vice president’s absence.

“ We held the 120 day social contract program, and everybody said you should have been there, but with all the work you did before you went, we continued, and I think that we’re able to present to the people of Ghana a significant percentage of the things that we had promised. But in all this, you were missed. President Mahama stated.

The vice president is advised to take it easy initially, with a promise of further assessment of his condition later.

“The doctors say you are 20 years younger and that you are okay and fit for the job, but we’ll ask that you take it easy for a little while, and afterwards we’ll see how things go.” He said.
