I took over a KMA that didn’t have car, so I had to donate my car (Thundra) to be used for Patrols – KMA Boss, King Zuba

The mayor of Kumasi, Hon. Richard Ofori Agyemang Boadi, speaking on Kessben FM’s Maakye, revealed that he had to donate his personal car to support patrol operations in the ongoing decongestion exercise within the Kumasi Metropolis because he took over a KMA that didn’t have any car for official duties.

According to him, the gesture is part of his commitment to ensuring the sustainability of the project, which seeks to clear unauthorized traders from roadsides and restore order to the central business district. The donated vehicle will be used by the taskforce to conduct regular patrols aimed at maintaining discipline among traders and drivers.

The Mayor emphasized that while the decongestion effort has begun on a strong note, more vehicles are needed to keep patrols consistent and effective. He stressed that without logistical support, the gains made in the initial stages of the exercise may not be sustained.

Hon. Agyemang Boadi explained that the motivation behind the project is twofold: to create adequate and organized parking spaces within the city, and to protect legitimate business operators who have secured shops and pay taxes, from unfair competition posed by street hawkers and unauthorized sellers.

The Mayor further revealed his broader vision to develop a 10-year development plan for Kumasi before the end of his tenure. According to him, this roadmap will serve as a foundation for sustainable urban growth and orderly commercial activity in the Garden City.
