South African Passenger Arrested at Kotoka International Airport for Cannabis Trafficking

On April 25, 2025, officers at Kotoka International Airport in Accra conducted routine narcotics checks on passengers arriving on an Emirates flight. During the checks, a South African passenger, Andile Mitchel Mdluli, was stopped for profiling.

Passenger’s Journey

Mdluli stated that she had started her journey from Bangkok and transited through Dubai to Accra. However, a further search of her two checked-in bags revealed substances concealed in 15 black wraps found inside one of her bags.

Positive Test for Cannabis

A field test conducted on the substances proved positive for cannabis, with a gross weight of 16.28kg. Mdluli was immediately arrested by officials from the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC).
