Gariba Ibrahim declares Mohammed Polo as Ghana’s Greatest Footballer of All Time (GOAT), followed by Abedi Pele

Former Asante Kotoko and Black Stars defender Gariba Ibrahim has waded into the ever-heated debate over Ghana’s greatest footballer of all time, boldly declaring that Mohammed Polo, the “Dribbling Magician,” stands above all others.

In an exclusive interview with Kessben TV, Gariba did not hesitate when asked to name the finest football talent Ghana has ever produced. “For me, Mohammed Polo is Ghana’s greatest footballer of all time. And after him, I would place Abedi Pele,” he said with conviction.

Gariba Ibrahim, who played during a golden era of Ghanaian football, explained that Polo’s style, flair, and technical brilliance were unmatched. “Polo didn’t just play football; he painted pictures on the pitch. His ball control, his dribbling, his vision  it was something else. You had to see him live to understand,” he said.

Often described as a natural artist with the ball, Mohammed Polo rose to stardom in the 1970s with Accra Hearts of Oak and the national team, dazzling fans with his creativity and contributing significantly to Ghana’s 1978 Africa Cup of Nations triumph.

Gariba was also quick to acknowledge the greatness of Abedi Ayew Pele, widely considered Ghana’s most successful international player. “Abedi is not far behind,” he said. “He was the complete modern footballer strength, skill, and a brilliant international career. He comes next after Polo.”
