The attendance of Kotoko games now does not reflect the name Asante Kotoko – Hon Patrick Boamah

Patrick Boamah, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Okaikwei North, has expressed concerns about the poor attendance at matches involving the renowned Ghanaian football club, Asante Kotoko. Speaking on Kessben TV following Kotoko’s hard-fought 1-0 victory over Berekum Chelsea on Wednesday, the MP highlighted a disturbing trend that he believes undermines the club’s legacy and stature.
According to Hon. Boamah, the attendance at Kotoko games does not align with the club’s prestigious name and rich history in Ghanaian football. Kotoko, often referred to as “the Porcupine Warriors,” has a long-standing reputation as one of the most successful and beloved football clubs in the country. Despite this, the MP pointed out that the dwindling number of supporters in the stadium during recent games is troubling.
Hon. Boamah’s comments come in the wake of Kotoko’s narrow victory against Berekum Chelsea, a match that ended with a 1-0 scoreline in favor of the Porcupine Warriors. While the team’s performance on the pitch was commendable, the low turnout in the stands raised questions about the level of support Kotoko currently enjoys from their fanbase.
While the reasons behind the decline in attendance are varied, some analysts point to factors such as the increased competition from other football clubs, logistical challenges for fans, and, perhaps, the inconsistent performance of the team in recent years. Regardless of the cause, Hon. Boamah believes that Kotoko’s current attendance figures are not reflective of the club’s esteemed legacy, and something needs to be done to revive the club’s fan base.
