Bring us on board for player development – Ashanti Regional Minister Dr. Frank Amoakohene told by Kotoko legends

The Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, has held discussions with some of the legendary former players of Asante Kotoko, one of Ghana’s most successful and storied football clubs. The meeting, which took place in the Ashanti Region, saw the Minister engage with these football icons, emphasizing the need for collaboration between the old and new generations of players to help elevate the sport.

During the meeting, the Kotoko legends led by Malik Jabir, shared their thoughts and concerns regarding the development of the sport in the region. One of the key points raised by the former players was the importance of bringing them on board to help in the nurturing of young footballers.

The old players expressed their desire to contribute to the development of future generations of players by offering their wealth of experience and expertise. They highlighted the fact that, having played at the highest level, they possess the necessary skills and knowledge to guide and mentor up-and-coming footballers, particularly those within the Kotoko system and the Ashanti Region at large.

The Kotoko legends noted that the current generation of players could benefit significantly from the insight and tactical wisdom they have garnered throughout their careers. “We have the expertise, the experience, and the passion for football,” one of the legends stated. “All we ask is that we are given the opportunity to work with the younger players, sharing the lessons we’ve learned over the years, so they can achieve greater success both at the local and international levels.”

In response, Dr. Frank Amoakohene acknowledged the immense value that these former players bring to the table. He emphasized that their contributions are crucial in the ongoing development of the sport, especially at the grassroots level. The Minister assured the Kotoko legends that the government and his office would make efforts to ensure their involvement in the development programs of both local clubs and youth academies.
