President Mahama backs renewed Russia–Ukraine talks, calls for lasting peace

President John Dramani Mahama has welcomed Russia’s willingness to resume trilateral talks on the conflict with Ukraine, calling for a lasting peace agreement that guarantees security for both countries.
Addressing the 3rd Russia–Africa Summit in Moscow, President Mahama said Ghana supported diplomatic efforts to resolve the conflict, which has caused significant human suffering and disrupted global trade and supply chains.
“Mr. President, we appreciate your willingness to resume trilateral talks in respect of the conflict with Ukraine and your call for a lasting peace agreement and security for both Russia and Ukraine,” he said.
President Mahama stressed the need for an amicable resolution to ongoing conflicts around the world, warning that wars continued to claim lives, inflict suffering and severely disrupt international logistics and value chains.
“Ghana calls for an amicable resolution of these various conflicts ongoing around the world,” he stated.
Beyond the Russia–Ukraine conflict, the President called for stronger international cooperation and solidarity in the fight against terrorism, particularly in the territories of the Alliance of Sahel States, where insecurity remains a major concern.
He urged leaders participating in the summit to translate diplomatic engagements and emerging partnerships into concrete actions that would improve the lives of their citizens.
“Let us leave this summit with a clear commitment to action and with the resolve to follow through,” President Mahama said.
He added that the success of international partnerships should be measured by the tangible progress they deliver to ordinary people rather than diplomatic engagements alone.
“The most lasting expression of our friendship will be the progress our people can see in their communities and their lives,” he said.
