Our forests are our pharmacy, Trust Mahama’s Government to protect them alongside our water bodies – Hussein Ibrahim

Hussein Ibrahim, a communication member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has reiterated the party’s commitment to preserving Ghana’s natural resources, particularly the country’s forests and water bodies.
Speaking on Kessben FM’s Maakye with KOD, Ibrahim emphasized that Ghana’s forests are not just vital to the environment, but they are also crucial to the well-being of the nation’s people. He underscored that these natural resources serve as “our pharmacy,” offering critical ecological services such as clean air, medicinal plants, and water purification.
“Forests are not just trees; they are our pharmacy, providing essential medicines that protect our health and wellbeing,” Hussein Ibrahim stated. “Our forests are home to a wealth of biodiversity, and if properly protected, they will continue to serve as a vital resource for generations to come.” He said.
Ibrahim also took the opportunity to reaffirm the NDC’s commitment under the leadership of former President John Dramani Mahama to strengthen environmental protection policies. He stated that a future NDC government would prioritize the protection of Ghana’s forest reserves and water bodies, ensuring that these valuable resources are preserved for the benefit of all Ghanaians.
Alongside the protection of forests, Hussein Ibrahim also highlighted the importance of protecting Ghana’s water bodies. Rivers, lakes, and wetlands are critical to the nation’s agriculture, energy production, and potable water supply. However, many of these water bodies are increasingly under threat from pollution, illegal mining (galamsey), and encroachment.
