The Junior Graphic National Essay Competition (JGNEC) has officially launched its 2025 edition, marking another exciting chapter in its mission to promote literacy and creative writing among upper primary and junior high school students nationwide. The launch, which took place at the Silverbird Cinemas in Accra Mall, brought together students, educators, and sponsors, all united by a shared passion for nurturing the next generation of writers and thinkers.

This year’s competition, themed “Nurturing Creativity: The Role of Reading and Writing,” aims to inspire students to explore the transformative power of reading and writing in their lives. The contest, organized by the Junior Graphic, is supported by prominent sponsors, including FirstBank Ghana, Promasidor Ghana Limited, and Peeva Beverages, demonstrating their commitment to education and youth development.

The Junior Graphic National Essay Competition has established itself as a cornerstone of promoting literacy and creative writing among schoolchildren since its inception in 2011. A shining example of the competition’s impact is Nathaniel Mawuli Agbozo-Ayeh, a student from St. Dominic R/C Basic School in the Eastern Region, who emerged as a past winner. Speaking at the launch, the Editor of Junior Graphic, Madam Hannah Amoah, expressed her enthusiasm for this year’s competition, which targets over 5,000 participants. Madam Amoah noted that the competition has seen significant improvements in essay writing over the years and urged schools to strive for excellence. She praised the sponsors for their unwavering support, highlighting their crucial role in making the competition a success.
