Over 6 Million Students Benefited from Free SHS Since 2017 – Hon Sam Pyne
According to Hon Sam Pyne, the mayor of Kumasi, over 6 million students have benefited from the FREE SHS implemented by the NPP Government.
As a result of the Free SHS, no student is sacked from school or prevented from writing exams for paying School fees.
And every student has to opportunity to explore all other learning mediums. Thus students can enroll in extra classes without having to go and work for money to pay for their School fees.
“Every single person who attended ST. Augustine’s with me, knew me not because I was a bad student, but when sacking students for not paying school fees I was number one on the list” said Sam Pai.
He further shared that he would not have been able to complete SHS if his uncle had not returned from abroad to pay his school fees.
With this policy in place, the financial burden on Ghanaians has significantly eased. Today, education is more accessible, and many families now have educated members.
Students no longer need to engage in trading or other activities to fund their school fees, as he once did. This is why Ghanaians must support Bawumia and the NPP government to ensure the continuation of this transformative policy.
He mentioned that another remarkable intervention is STEM education, which has paved the way for groundbreaking innovations. This initiative ensures that every student, regardless of their financial background, has the opportunity to benefit and explore these fields.
Honorable Sam Pyne acknowledged Issues faced by free SHS, in illustration, he compared this situation to even the 1980s when he was in School and education was not free, he mentioned there were still challenges.
Therefore, with every initiative, there is always a challenge.
However, it is essential to have a government capable of addressing these challenges, as the NPP government is doing by constructing dormitories and classrooms to tackle the issues arising from the FREE SHS policy.
He mentioned that the NDC government is accusing the Policy of quality reasons, yet we have Ghanaian students being products of this Policy who won the world Robotics challenge.
Additionally, graduates of the Free SHS program continue to perform exceptionally well in tertiary institutions and training colleges.
He added that the NDC government has only criticized the policy and has never acknowledged any positive aspects of the Free SHS initiative.
