NDC will secure more than 30% Votes in Ashanti Region – Shamima Muslim
Shamima Muslim, an NDC spokesperson on gender and social protection and journalist has said that the NDC will secure 30% and above votes in the Ashanti region, being the stronghold of the NPP.
“We have been actively campaigning across all regions, with the Ashanti Region being a critical battleground for the NDC. The political landscape in the Ashanti Region has shifted, making it unlikely for the NPP to maintain its historically high vote percentages. She stressed.
She pointed out that NPP has failed to fulfill its promises to the people of the Ashanti Region. “John Dramani Mahama, during his four-year tenure, accomplished more for Asanteman than the NPP has in eight years,” she claimed.
Shamima mentioned projects completed by the NDC from 2012 to 2016, including the Asawase Hospital, educational infrastructure projects, and other social services.
Furthermore, she criticized the current state of infrastructure, noting that the Kyebi road remains in poor condition and the road from Kyebi to Kumasi is still under construction.
Shamima also referenced the recent NPP primaries, where Hon. Allan Kwadwo Kyeremateng, the party’s flagbearer, resigned. She argued that Allan, being an Ashanti, would draw votes away from the NPP, further reducing their vote share.
In response to a question from Kwabena Owusu Dankwah, the host of Maakye, about the influence of Hon. Mathew Opoku Prempeh, who also hails from the Ashanti Region, Shamima contended that his role would not significantly impact the NPP’s vote share.
She cited Bawumia’s own words that, as vice president, he could only advise the president, implying that Hon. Matthew Opoku Prempeh would face similar limitations.
She added that Bawumia’s philosophy of vice president being a figurehead would make it difficult for Mathew Opoku Prempeh to play a significant role in Bawumia’s government.
Moreover, she mentioned that founding member Nyaho Tamakloe and other NPP leaders have expressed dissatisfaction with the party’s current state.
Shamima Muslim concluded by urging all Ghanaians, especially those in the Ashanti Region, to consider which government can bring developmental projects to the region and vote accordingly rather than adhering to the status quo.
