UK Govt Commits To Investing In Ghanaian Youth
A Deputy British High Commissioner, Keith McMahon, has reiterated the UK government’s commitment to investing in young people in Ghana and across the globally to contribute their quota to national development.
In his welcome address, Mr Keith McMahon said this when he hosted a reception to welcome home the 2022/2023 Chevening and Commonwealth Scholars, together with members of the Chevening alumni community, friends, colleagues, and partners to network, share memories and achievements of the new cohorts.
He emphasised the importance of initiatives such as the Chevening and Commonwealth Scholarships schemes, stating that they not only provide opportunities for personal transformation but also contribute to the development of Ghana as a whole.
“We, the UK government, are dedicated to investing in young people globally,” McMahon stated. “With programmes like Chevening and Commonwealth Scholarships, you can not only transform your own lives but also contribute to the development of your country – Ghana.”
Mr McMahon believes that by investing in the education and development of Ghanaian youth, the UK government can foster and deepen long-term partnerships and contribute to the nation’s sustainable growth and prosperity.
He stressed that the scholarships not only enable recipients to acquire valuable skills and knowledge but also empower them to become future leaders in their respective fields.
The Deputy British High Commissioner said “The Chevening programme remains one of my favorite programmes. The stories of resilience, impact and leadership exhibited by the scholars every year, inspires hope, and offers great justification for the UK government’s investment in this area.”
He further congratulated all the scholars on their academic accomplishments and wished them continued success in their future endeavors. He added: “We look forward to enduring collaborations that will advance mutual goals and objectives.”
President of the Ghana Chevening Alumni Association, Mr Ebenezer Amankwah noted; “We are certainly excited to welcome our new alumni cohort to Ghana. It is an interesting time in the global economy, especially in Ghana and we can’t wait to benefit from their experience.”
“The alumni association is a strong platform of empowerment and transformation, and we look forward to supporting the new cohort to make a direct impact and value to the country’s growth,” he added.
About Chevening & Commonwealth Scholarships
Chevening is the UK government’s international scholarships programme. Funded by the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office and partner organisations, it offers awards to study in the UK for one year on a fully funded master’s degree course.

Commonwealth Scholarships are aimed at students from across the Commonwealth who would not otherwise be able to afford to study in the UK. By funding postgraduate studies in a range of different study formats, the scheme helps to support future innovators and leaders.
This historic award is the UK’s primary scholarship scheme focused on contributing to the UK’s international development aims. It is designed to attract outstanding talent to UK universities whilst supporting sustainable development overseas.
