Technical Universities urged to roll out cutting edge innovations to find solutions to technological challenges
The 2nd annual applied research conference of technical universities in Ghana as ended with the call on the institutions to roll out cutting edge innovations to meet the changing dynamics in technological advancements and to also be abreast with the emerging trends in research and intellectual creativity.
The technical universities in the regions were also tasked to institute an intellectual property policy to patent the production and the manufacture of items in their respective institutions in order not to be duplicated or copied for other purposes.

This came to light during the closing ceremony of a research conference in Accra, themed “Sustainable Technologies, Innovation and Entrepreneurial Development” organised by Accra Technical University with line-up of topics such as Information and Communication Technology, Entrepreneurship, Industry and University linkages, Innovation in Science and Health, Technological Innovation in Engineering and Applied Arts and Technology.
Speakers at the 2-day event includes, Prof. Samuel Nii Odai, the Vice Chancellor of Accra Technical University, Dr. Wilfred Anim-Odame, Chairman of the Governing Council of ATU, Prof. Mrs. Rita Akosua Dickson, the VC of KNUST, Dr. Kwaku Afriyie, Minister of Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, Dr. Fred Kyei Asamoah, the Director-General of the CTVET, Deputy Minister of Education, Madam, Gifty Twum-Ampofo, Mr. Kwadwo Safo Kantanka Jnr, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Kantanka Automobile among others.
The conference created a platform for the technical universities and stakeholders to deliberate and discuss research works and to create also linkages and networks to enhance research findings for development and technological solutions.
Speaking at the closing ceremony, the Vice Chancellor of ATU, Prof. Samuel Nii Odai urged the Vice Chancellors of the various technical universities to put in place an enabling environment for research and entrepreneurial development to support the economy and the technological growth of the country.
He commended participants for their unflinching support and inputs and explained that “a lot of hard work have gone to the two day programme and expressed his gratitude to the media for immense coverage of the conference.
In a remark, the VCTU-G, Prof. Ben Honyenuga urged technical universities in the country to create networks and cooperation for growth, transformation, development to enhance entrepreneurship and technological innovations, adding they are the driving force of the economy as well as job creation.
For his part, the Vice Chancellor of Sunyani Technical University, Prof. K. Adinkrah-Appiah said the role of technical universities in the socio-economic development of the country has enhanced technological advancement to compete at the global markets.
